Fall weather 2023

At our location, so far our night-time temperatures are mid to low 50°s F with light to medium fog. Daytime has been alternating between a few days of sun in the low 70°s then a few days of total cloud cover without precipitation in the 60°s.

We had lovely fall days right up until Tuesday night, and then winter moved in. Windy, with snow right on top of unraked leaves. Temps in the middle teens. Next week we’re supposed to be back in the high 40s!

I just finished sweeping out and inspecting the wood stove chimney. Won’t be long until we’ll be needing it. It’s currently 80 degrees. I worked up a bit of sweat, that ran down my forehead into my eye. Yet here I was on the roof getting the wood stove ready :joy: Atleast it’s ready now :+1: I’m going to take the chimney sweep over to the neighbors so they can use it. It makes no sense for them to go out and buy one when I already got one.

Yeah…I noticed you got some fluffy stuff in Montana and ND. Minnesota, too.
Going to get our first frost/freeze Monday night I think.

Been lovely here this Fall. Erratic fall color. But I noticed a Sugar maple and a Mountain maple (I guess…as it’s native and neither red nor sugar nor black nor Norway) having gold and the most brilliant scarlet side by side…don’t have a ‘smart phone’, so no pics.

We’re coming off a very hot and very dry summer and have had a couple of days in the 70’s and most in the 80’s with several close to 90. Wednesday we are forecasted to 28° and rain. We’ve only been in the 40’s at night once. Today it is 82 and going down to 68 tonight. Crazy weather. I hate it for the trees when we are warm and have had no frost. Trees barely starting to color change and boom—hard freeze.

Our central air thermostat turned on the heater this morning, first time in months.

We had our first frost overnight. It’s about two weeks later than the old normal.

That’s funny.

But the fact of the matter is they don’t slow to 35 unless the speed limit is 25 or 15!!!

Yes, it’s the second latest in 50 years here…in fact last night didn’t frost as it stayed cloudy and didn’t go below 32 anyhow, but tonight there’ll be a freeze.

This is true…. Or a school zone will take us down really quick.

Ours for the last three years is two weeks earlier than our November 15 average…… and colder. We’ve skipped frost and gone straight to freeze!
