Feeder Rootless Persimmon. Recovery?

In the process of pulling out a persimmon from the pot all dirt fell of revealing a complete lack of feeder roots. Just the thick carrot roots (potted bare root). Any chance of recovery or is it better to trash and start with a better one?

It should grow feeder roots with time, especially if the tap root was trimmed back at all.

I went ahead and planted it. Do you think it will be able to grow enough root to survive the winter? Its 3 taproots they trimmed to fit the pot. Persimmons are not exactly loaded with feeder roots to begin with.

I had that happen to a Miss Kim persimmon last year. It also got zapped by a late freeze yet managed 5 feet of vertical growth this year. My bet is it’ll live.
