First cherries hopefully

Here are my first set cherries. The tree is either Lapins or black gold. One of the two died and the kids took off the tags. Hopefully I finally get to taste one if I can keep the tree rats away. This tree is barely hanging on after a borer or some issue early last year.

I have a small potted Lapins tree. I had good luck saving the few cherries last year by putting plastic webbed bags with metal bread ties - the type of bags you might find garlic or Mandarin oranges in. That way I didn’t have to tent the whole tree. I wouldn’t advise assuming wildlife would miss the cherries. My Black Gold grafts didn’t take but I think they are a darker cherry than Lapins. Enjoy your new fruit.

I saw ONE sweet cherry on my lapins. I might try that. One cherry is better than none!
