For folks that have experienced pear buds opening and freezing from extreme lows: What should I expect for the year?

Prior to the deep freeze that rolled through Texas, my pears(Southern Bartlett and Meadows) were in the very early stages of buds opening up.

Along came 5+ days of freezing temperatures in the teens, dipping down to -1F. What should I expect at this point? Leaves, but no flowers? Late blooming? Late leafing out? A dead tree or two? Will the spurs be able to flower again or are they toast?

From my LIMITED experience no blooms but tree will be okay. If the leaves were there they would die and if just depends on the extent whether it would get your tree or limbs. My buds have frozen before and just no fruit that year. But then this weather has been extreme!!!

I second. That -1F is not good. It would be fine if it had been dormant. We often have late spring frost in Midwest but it doesn’t dip this lower . The less hardy rootstock should be able handled this temperature dip. I think the flower buds are all dead, but the tree is ok. Good luck

-1 on a tree that isn’t dormant and isn’t winter hardy (I don’t know either of the varieties mentioned, maybe they are hardy to below zero) isn’t good. I’ve lost young, winter hardy trees here due to temps in the upper single digits/low teens after the trees have woken up and budded out. Good luck
