When does your Frostbite ripen? I have a two year old Frostbite that I’ve let keep 3 fruit (it wanted to do a dozen!). They’re small but quite colored already and I’m wondering when they might be ripe.
Thought I’d update since I was looking at my still rather small Frostbite tree, once again bloomed and set more than it should, and trying to decide how many to leave. Last fall I left 3 – 2 smallest dropped Sept 11, not ripe but had a bit of interesting flavor to them. The last larger one dropped Sept 24. It looked good and I left it until Oct.11 when I couldn’t wait any longer so ate it. It was very good - firm, crisp, juicy, nice flavored. Maybe I’ll leave 4 this year (it’s a 3 yr old planted tree from Fedco). Can’t wait for it to be more mature and larger harvest to test how they taste after longer storage. Meantime, it’s looking good and I’ll appreciate another few apples to try. Sue
I grafted a couple Frostbites this spring after tasting the fruit from a friend’s tree. They are tasty and I really liked the texture as well.
