Fruit tasting events?

Anyone know of any upcoming fruit tasting events or classes you’d like to share with others who live in your region?

I would love to do that for my locale here in about 10 years when I get things in good production.

Two Angels Fig Farm is holding their annual “Southeast Fig Frolic” in Chattanooga, TN on September 13 from 9am-3pm. See this link for more info.

Cliff England is having his annual orchard open house in McKee, KY on October 13 from 10am-3pm. It’s a phenomenal opportunity to explore his vast orchard and taste his many, many cultivars of persimmon, che, and jujube. Cliff himself leads a tour of the persimmon area and shares his extensive expertise. He also sells fruits, nuts, and grafted trees there.

I am seriously thinking about driving more than 4 hours and getting an Airbnb to go to Mount Hood for Kiokawa orchard’s 2 day 100 apple tasting event. I am on the fence because it’s a lot of driving when I don’t have much vacation left, and I have animals and 2 old folks at home. I emailed Joanne at TemperateOrchard Conservancy to see if they will just let me wander around looking at everything. I am sure that was a weird email to get and not 100% sure I expect an affirmative response. If she does say yes, though, TWO orchards in one trip would 100% be worth it! TOC is in Mollala, and on my way.

I drove 3 hours to go to the Home Orchard Education Center’s pest and disease class. It’s mostly outdoor discussion but we can also walk through the orchard. I brought some photos with me to show Tonia and to compare to her trees. This year the staff did a much better job of thinning and coddling moth damage was much less than last year. They use Surround with cyd-x. Last year I wasnt so impressed with their results but this year was way better.

I took lots of pictures of interesting fruit that I don’t have. I’ll post them over the next couple days.

Tonia said this is her favorite pear.

The orange one is Madame Boutant, which she said is also very good.

You probably know about Broadacres Grape Nursery in Hubbard, about 12 miles from Molala.
I drove 4 hours from northwest Washington to sample the 43 varieties of dessert grapes. Ate grapes till I was beyond full and brought back plants of best ones. Totally worth the visit!

I’ve never stopped there. HOEC has a ton of grape varieties, also, and they hold an annual class about them.

Here’s an event in BC:

Seed Savers Exchange is having their apple tasting and orchard tour October 4th. I went last year and loved it. They let you pick a 5 gallon bucket of apples for free.

Went to Kiyokawa Orchard today for their apple tasting event. I got there way too early so just took a few pictures. I wanted to see their display area and orchard anyway. I will post lots of pictures later.
