GA Peach growing progress

For several years I didn’t consider planting peaches because everyone told me they were impossible to grow due to disease and pest pressure. But after seeing Chris from north Georgia’s harvest pictures (and his spray program) I went head first into Peach growing last year. My trees are looking great and I thought I would share some pictures:

2nd leaf contender peach from Cummins nursery:

All of my peaches are growing like mad and I can’t believe how fast they grow here. This winter I plan to open them all up according to the NC pruning video Scott posted (thanks Scott!):

I’m also planning to use parts of Scott’s low spray program (thanks again Scott for posting this!) once I identify the pests and diseases present in my orchard. I would be much further along if I had ignored the naysayers and gone with my gut to start. I only got one peach this year (a delicious tasting red skin) but next year should prove more fruitful.

nice job @Mickster looks like a healthy tree…do you know of anyone else in your area growing peaches?

Way to go Mickster, you trees like great. You are on your way to a great crop next year. It is quite shocking at first to see how fast peach trees grow in our Ga red clay. To keep mine below 7 feet I prune mine a minimum of 3 times a year.

The peaches on my Challenger tree are starting to turn a deep red and typically harvested around July 4th which is perfect for holiday home made ice cream, etc.
