Are you asking about the rootstock or your choice of apple variety?
How much room do you have in the area you are planning to plant the tree?
In what region, and zone do you live?

I have a gala on M111 root stock. Just got it this year on 3.2 gallon pot. It’s in the ground now. I need a lot of grafting material and M111 root stock should help with that. I got a few branches this year to graft onto my crab-apple. The middle or center branches of the tree tend to shoot straight up, but bending it is no problem with some strings and bricks as anchor. The description say, prune to any size you want. I intended to do that as I need grafting materials.
