Getting harvest all year

Hello everyone,

I’ve been browsing this forum for several months and its been an amazing resource.

its making my head spin a little though.
I’m just looking for a few fruit trees for my garden to produce something through the year. I’ve got a Bartlett in the ground and a kansas sweet cherry, but i’m having trouble picking something that ripens earlier or later than these to get the most out of the year. I’m in Kansas Z6b.

I’ve been eyeing TangO peaches and green gages, but i’m open to anything tasty that ripens really early or really late.

Welcome to the forum!

Some of us live in climates where we literally have fruit harvests all year. It appears though you are in zone 6b. Can you narrow that down to a U.S. county or provence elsewhere?

My earliest ripeners are strawberries earli glow mid april, then goumi, loganberries, raspberries…

Latest… figs, CHE, persimmons.

Earlirlest ripening tree fruit… mulberries.
My gerardi mulberry starts ripening fruit mid may… finishes early july.

I have a early mcintosh apple that starts ripening mid june and finishes by mid july.

They would probably be later for you… i am in southern middle TN.

For me last year here in Northeast Kansas based off what month I took the pictures of what I was eating then.

May- strawberries, gooseberries, mulberries, and honeyberries.

June- cherries, honeyberries, strawberries, mulberries, gooseberries, honeyberries, saskatoon berries, raspberries, blackberries, and apples.

July- apples, raspberries, blackberries, sasatoon berries, Strawberries, grapes, gooseberries, mulberries, chokecherries, and elderberries.

August- apples, peaches, raspberries, blackberries, figs, elderberries, grapes, pawpaws, and pears.

September- apples, raspberries, pawpaws, pears, locust pods, persimmons, grapes, blackberries, figs, and pecans.

October- apples, grapes, raspberries, persimmons, fig, pecans, and walnuts.

November- persimmons, raspberries, and apples.

October 13 was the first frost of this last fall, it was a late fall last year.
I definitely do not have all the types of fruit or varieties of the fruits that I want yet, but I hope to have a lot more.

A list of fruits, and nuts (plus some irrelevant stuff) that I made of possibilities or desires for me to try growing here (or breed to be able to grow here) or already is growing here. Wouldn’t recommend you trying most of the stuff unless you have a lot of space.
If you wait long enough I can give a report how well each thing did.

Here are some other things I harvest (not tree fruits) … but anyone can add them to their diet and simply collect them from the land.

Smallmouth bass… black perch, largemouth bass usually start hitting good here in early March… others… crappie blue gill catfish.

When red buds bloom mid march early april here… their blossoms are edible and taste like sweet peas. Good on a salad.

Morel mushrooms … first week in April here.

Wild turkey … spring hunting season

Chanterelle mushroom… during the summer months.

In the fall / winter here we have squirrel, dove, quail, deer hunting seasons.

In the fall / winter months… collecting shag bark hickory nuts, walnuts, etc…

Really late pears like duchess d’ angoulme and korean giant are must havess in Kansas. If you have a shady spot, you can try honeyberries, which ripen in may before strawberries. I have trouble with the summer sun burning up the honeyberries. Dont forget thingss mushrooms , strawberries etc they are great for extending the season. The peaches i grow aree flat wonderful, contender, reliance all which do well here. American plums do good here though pests are a real problem.

I had a year long harvest off one tree, a mulberry. Beyond that get a properly equipped greenhouse and year around harvest is a breeze.

I grow greens (leaf lettuce, spinach) all fall winter and spring. In a cold frame type structure… that is heated with incadescent c9 christmas lights on the really cold nights.

We eat very nice greens from October to May with this.
