Matt,
Lemoore is hardly a desert. It is in the middle of the central valley. He will have a lot of chill hours as well. There are a lot of orchards all around Lemoore and all throughout the central valley for that matter. He can pretty much grow anything that he chooses. It is 45 minutes from Fresno.
