Gooseberry Time

Does anybody have any recipes to use for gooseberries to share? I have tried pie, crumble, jam, and even flavored vodka. The sweet tart treats are good, but often too tart for my family. I have not tried to use them in savory dishes. Pork?

The birds have been watching me pick berries this year, they favor the gooseberry to blackberry and raspberry. This year when I pick them I pull sideways and usually this gets rid of the stem. Then I pull the end off so the berries are ready to eat.

Please share any gooseberry tips or recipes!

Here’s one I posted. A good starting point with room for improvement. I have some gooseberries in the freezer left from last year that need to be used so I’m planing on cooking with them this weekend.

Yes we do not have many fishy-oily fish here in the Midwest. I will try frozen mackerel or mullet. Maybe include some scapes! Thanks!

I just wanted to say that I noticed the same thing about birds, they seem to prefer my gooseberries over everything else.

I think I’ve only gotten to eat one this year.

I use a lot of jams as a base for sauces for all kinds of meats. There are several Asian plum sauce recipes that work well with other sweet tart fruits presented on Youtube. You can probably adapt the recipe to gooseberries. God bless.
