OK, thanks, looks like I can’t graft peach to plum, but I could maybe put a plum on a peach. Alright that settles that issue, then.
In a few years after all our new trees get settled, we’ll have four different peach varieties, which should be enough. Plus, if our new plums do well, we’ll have a different fruit to try. We’re not big plum fans, but at least we could try them and graft a different variety if we don’t like these.
Edit: I looked thru another thread (and posting on it) about grafting peaches onto Prunus americana, or wild plum, which is what I have, not an euro plum. So, I think my original idea will work. But, I will wait until next year to try it. Got to make sure these two plums will survive the transplant.
ha-ha, this is exactly what scares me - vegetable garden. I decided to give up on melons to plant this tree. But if I can use the spot this year for melons - I would prefer to do it. The tree will get lost between the melons, if I plant it there, the pot will be much safer.
Prunus americana accepts peaches, Euro & Asian plums, & apricots; and hybrids of these i.e. pluots.

With a little bit of surgical help my first bud on grafted scion was born!
Galina,
Any bud below the graft union, rub it off.
Yes, the temp fluctuate too widely. I would keep it where temp is more stable but that’s me.
Thanks, I removed bud from rootstock. I think I will keep it outside and will take in the garage on cold nights, otherwise I will have to train it to the sun later.
