Grafting persimmon

It just snowed and the trees are in dormancy ,I have never grafted persimmon , so should I graft it now or wait till sap starts flowing , suggestions would really help.

Wait until spring and rootstock starts leafing out. Now is a good time to get dormant scionwood and keep it in the fridge until you’re ready to graft.

Yep, wait till it leafs out. Once the bark is slipping, should be good to go.

What temperature should the fridge be set??

Cold but not freezing. I like to wait and collect scion wood while still fully dormant but as late in winter as possible so it is stored for as short as possible. I cut scion wood here in zone six in late February

What @Derby42 said is good advice. I’ve had the best success with grafting persimmons using bark grafts rather than cleft or whip-and-tongue. So wait for the bark to slip.

Thanks for the advice

I don’t much experience grafting but I have had good success grafting persimmons using the bark graft method. Definitely wait til it’s easy to peel the bark down; if it seems to be sticking to the hard white wood underneath then it’s too early.
