Hello,
I have been doing a lot of persimmon grafts over the past couple of months. The rootstock size has been mixed, some quite large and some smaller. Now I am getting to the point where the rootstock is quite small. In some cases, I can only graft to the rootstock if I went pretty low down – almost to the root.
Is there any benefit to waiting for a year or longer to graft IF I can graft today with a good chance of success? Will grafting to a small rootstock stunt the tree or otherwise keep it from growing as much as if I grafted to a larger rootstock?
