Harrow delight grafting

I grafted harrow delight a few years ago on my franken tree. It bloomed this year but it tip bloomed like an Asian pear instead of on a spur like I would have thought a European pear would. Do you think this was mislabeled scion?

I don’t think that it blooming on the tip rules it out from being a European pear. Many of my one year grafts of apples and pears flower on the tip. I have added a few scions each year to my Frankentree and several have put on tip blooms.

I hope that is the case. I have nothing that will pollinate it so I doubt I get to see fruit. I show Bartlett will pollinate it but my Bartlett looks like it is a week from blooming. I wounder if a Bradford pear would pollinate it , those are blooming everywhere

I have two neighboring Bradford (Callery) pears that I have often wondered the same thing. Over the last few years I have grafted in overlapping blooming varieties just in case the Callery does not work. The additional scions added appears to be helping in fruit set and the fruit is larger.

Harrow Delight and Harrow Sweet both do that.

Callery pears will pollinate regular pears so no worries you will get fruit.

I was just thinking about asking you if they would cross pollinate. Thanks, Bill

I saw tip buds on my harrow delight so I would not worry about it. There is a lot of mislabeling that occurs so I can see why you would be concerned but in this case I think the tree is likely labeled correctly.
