Help grafting Osage Orange

I am going to attempt to graft Che Scions to this Osage orange that I have next to my Pond. It has been abused over the years by cattle who have watered there. This tree is about 4 feet tall and not very shapely. Question is how far back should I cut it to start the grafts? Also what type of grafts. I am a bit new to grafting, but i think the is a great opportunity to convert this neglected tree into something productive.

Prune it all back to one or two branches and graft at the top of those with whip and tongue or cleft. I would graft several feet up so rabbits are not a problem and deer still see the thorns at the bottom. All that said ive tried grafting che on my hedge aka osage orange and it was not succesful. Going to try tbuds next time. You will need a really sharp blade because che and osage orange are both rock hard! Either your osage orange is a good match that is compatible or its not and needs an interstem to work. Unfortunately wild osage orange all have different genetics.
