Help with grapes

I was visiting my mom and saw this happening to one of her grape vines. Any idea what is going on here? I transplanted this winter 2021 and it did really well last year.

What kind of climate and what kind of spot is it in, and how is the climate and the spot that it is in now VS before?

Is that herbicide damage?

I agree, growth regulator herbicide damage.

I wish I captured a better photo, but the old wood has black mold growing all up and down it and you can see it a bit near the top of the second photo. I was thinking that might be either the cause or a symptom but the herbicide thought is my mom’s first assumption as well. My step-dad swears he didn’t spray it! :joy:

Any suggestions on how to get it to bounce back?

Grapes are one of the most sensitive plants to dicamba damage. Even if a neighbor a block away sprayed symptoms can show up.

It’ll recover with normal care. You could maybe train up a sucker from the ground if you like.
