Houzz deleting fruit friendly, animal control posts

Just a note about Houzz. Today I contributed to a post about coon control. The OP was rather graphic and I tried to help. No more than I posted and it was gone.

We made the right choice moving.

I finally got kicked out. I still feel that I would like to help newbies there who do not yet know about our existence.

I found the post with Google. It seems that it is still up, but doesn’t show up in the list of posts on the frontpage:

http://forums.gardenweb.com/discussions/2947782/how-to-kill-raccoons

It was too graphic and probably deserved being deleted. I think most here appreciate animals and hope we can be respectful. I probably shouldn’t have brought it up.

fruitnut,
Was that the guy using the 22 pistol and concerned about running out of ammo? Brady

Okay it was.I just read Bob’s link after asking the question.I was looking for the post and couldn’t find it.Now I know. Thanks,Brady

I read the post. I used to keep plott coon hounds and hunted with them every fall. It is almost impossible to effectively dispatch a coon with a 22 short or a CB. Especially when they r up in a tree.

I wasn’t bothered by it, but I suppose there was concern that many would be. He probably could have steered clear of the issue by just leaving it at something like “not working and messy”, rather than going into how it is messy…

When the same thing happened to the squirrel drowning thread I was going to point out that the new site owner is based out of san francisco bay area. I refrained because I didn’t want to be too speculative with a regional stereotype. Now I wonder.

Houzz has also recently deleted all replies mentioning growingfruit.org and they might have an active filter for it in as well so you can’t mention it in a new post. Google right now still has 4-5 GW posts in their cache with growingfruit.org mentioned, but when you click on it you can see the reply with the site mentioned has been removed.

Here’s some interesting data.

Seems like we may need to reach out to our fruit growing brothers and sisters in other parts of the world.

I think that’s actually a compliment to you, Scott, because it means they consider you a competitor.

The word “Houzz” is a slang word for house as we all probably have guessed. But there are two pronunciations of “house”. The first sounds like mouse or louse, and the second sounds like browse or cows. It is the second pronunciation that I am concerned with because the definition of house pronounced that way means “a place for storage or containment”.

Containment seems to be what “houzz” is focused on. By containment I mean that houzz doesn’t want any topics that might create any controversy for their sponsors.

Additionally, and as was also pointed out in this topic and in other topics here, a google web search for something will sometimes provide a gardenweb result. This was an advantage for anyone who wanted to help their fellow countrymen with some country wisdom, yet was a disadvantage to advocates of containment.

Gardenweb (perhaps unintentionally) provided a soap box where topics possibly gained too much attention for the sponsors.

Yes. This is yet another example of the hidden crisis of the ongoing Coonhound shortage that is going on nationwide. I was riding my bike home from work last summer in my very suburban neighborhood and saw a pair of coyotes casually strolling down the street like they owned it.
I’m partial to a black and tan for sentimental reasons, but a Bluetick is nice. A black mouth cur is good and more tractable.

Well, what I need is a good coon dog that also attacks squirrels. Coon dogs don’t tend to be squirrel killers, do they?

There some dogs that are sort of in the middle. They are used for both types of game, like a mountain cur.

Says something about how they 1) view this site as a serious competitor and 2)feel about the free flow of information!

A good reason not to go to their site is that once you’re here there’s no reason to go there.
