How Close Can You Plant Figs Next to Other Trees?

How close can you plant figs next to citrus or stone fruit? I was looking into planting one in a small space roughly 4-5 feet away from some other fruit producing trees, but I’m worried that the fig’s root system may end up aggressively competing for water and nutrients at the expense of the growth of the other trees.

Bob Vance posted this statement from a video about growing Figs.Possibly something like that could be tried.Brady
“Figs do like to feel quite constrained. If you are growing one outside, don’t let it just have free run…total free run in the garden and you’ll get a fantastic architectural plant, but very very little fruit. The old gardeners used to plant it about 18” inches from a wall, then they’d use bits of old slate to form like a great big outdoor pot."

I’ve herd of using a 5 gallon buck and cut the bottom out and plant the fig in it so the bucket is under ground so the roots go downward and not shallow but not sure, just something to look into and especially if your other plants root shallow. It might help from grubs spreading from your yard to the fig tree roots as well?
