Yeah, got about 22” up here at 8300’ from that storm. It’s melting fairly fast; probably won’t have to plow the driveway. Biggest issue was the lows which were 22F up here. Not great for the fruit trees, especially the ones starting to bloom. But the good news is these late spring snows are infrequent and the snow typically melts in a day or two.
The last times we had this was like 10 and 15 years ago. So not that common an event. But if you really hate snow…
Another night where prediction 8 hours ago was 47 and now it’s 43. So my backyard is probably 35-37 because all the old houses have frost on their roofs again. Poor plants. (And monarch caterpillars) We’ll see how permanently stunted all the warm weather crops are from this freakishly cold crap. Would be great for my sweet peas if the $&@! House sparrows hadn’t devastated them down to inches.
It’s getting too hot. Hitting mid 90s every day with lows around 70. The strawberry plants themselves are hanging in there with extra water but not getting much fruit anymore.
I’m shuffling around my nursery pots today to get them in more afternoon shade.
and we’ve had 2 days that hit 60 so far. low 50’s and showers in the 7 day still. nice working in the yard in between the showers but a little cool if youre not moving. t shirt but not quite shorts weather.
Our last frost was April 27, then it was up to 84 degrees less than a week later. That probably sounds unremarkable to the midwesterners, but it’s quite unusual in the northwest. All my trees have flowered now and the potted figs look absolutely stoked.
So it’s been extremely nice weather for the past week and a half, but no significant precip since early April and things are drying up very quickly. There’s finally some rain in the long-term forecast that looks like it could be real. Fingers crossed.
I have noticed that in the inland northwest we often have a very dry month or so in spring, sometime between March and May, as the fast-moving winter fronts coming from the west or northwest weaken and stall out. Then at some point we start to get convective showers and storms drifting up from the southwest (Pacific) or southeast (Gulf of Mexico). But there’s the odd year when it stays dry right into summer, and those are the ones that make me nervous.
Min was 32.1°. There was a light frost on the open field and obviously the vehicles too. I think the plants are fine…may need to check the stevia later.
.25 of drought busting rains earlier in the week over the course of two days. It wasn’t enough to dampen the dust under the potato plants. Precipitation in the forecast is evaporating, and the dreaded big heat is rolling after the 18th.
Been seeing on average 1.5-2 inches per month for the last since Sept. of 2025.
The worst year at the nearest weather station is Mt. Airy. 19.8 inches total for 1930. That’s a 30 inch deficit. Other historic droughts saw rainfall totals around 33 inches, but 1930 stands out as the apocalyptic.
i dont get it. theres lots of mostly sunny days in the 7 day, yet temps still dont get above the mid 50’s. at least nightly lows stay above freezing. i dont remember a may this cool going back 40+ years. soil temp is still in the 40’s slowing things from leafing out. even my earliest honeyberries are stil just past greentip. should have been flowering by now. even the lawns struggling to green up.
27F last night. Days stay in the 50’s, trees are just leafing out now. It’s cold and damp and miserable. Forecast says 7 days from now we may break into the 60’s, and several more nights hovering around freezing. I’m just getting blooms at the orchard. Like last year, no pollinators with these temps.
