First frost this morning. Lots of frost in the marshes and skim ice on standing water in the atv trailer. Another frost tonight most likely. Thus endeth the growing season
Standard issue October heat wave. I gotta say, I was almost fooled into thinking we’d miss it this year—it was a relatively mild summer and up until about a week ago the forecasts had fall starting. ~35 degree temp swings during the day but the high is “only” about 15 degrees warmer than where I lived this time last year about 10mi away and 1 zone “warmer”
Some model was showing over 100F in LA.
46F this morning. Very October today. Bright blue skies and cool..temps in the 60Fs.
Yesterday was like summer in the morning and October in the evening. Dewpoint plummeted once the winds went north. Sparta and Black River stations were all 33F this morning so probably some frost.
I needed a knit cap and light gloves for my morning walks the last 2 days. It’s been quite awhile since it was summery here (which I’m just fine with)
Yup, 100 and over for large parts of inland Southern California and the Central Valley starting today into next week. Well above average and potentially setting a record for the latest day over 100 for Sacramento if the high temps continue through the end of next week.
I’m a bit surprised it’s record breaking, at least over here we’ve had big heat waves around this time the last several years. Though I suppose could have been 90 in the valley and 90 in OAK and not necessarily a 90 and 105 sort of a deal
The forecast for tonight is dark, with continued dark until partly light in the morning.
High was 85 today after a couple of weeks of 40s-60s weather. Asian pear responded by flowering though I think the pruning I did about a month ago is responsible too.
106F in Chino today yet it is sitting in the 20Fs and 30Fs across Alaska. Cold looks to stay up there. Should be back into the 70Fs here next week.
Temps are as predicted, and we’re getting some wind. Not crazy, but definitely some.
Fire weather.
cold front came through last night and dumped highs into the 50’s. killing frost tonight supposed to get in the mid 20’s. i think the mild temps are done for the season. leaves are just past peak.
80s on the coast here. Not much wind though. Definite Indian summer stuff which I knew was gonna happen sooner or later and honestly it feels a little bit early which makes me wonder if it might stick around for a while.
We’re sitting at approx 8C above average temperatures for this time of year. Currently hitting around 18C/9C. We’ve had a sprinkle of days that reached average, meaning about 6 frosts (2 of them killing frosts). Roughly 10km west, by a larger lake, there has not yet been a frost. Typical first frost date for the area is the first week of September.
It looks like we’ll start moving closer to seasonal temps within 10-15 days. I’ve been taking advantage and carrying out some fall planting projects and enjoying the warm sun and cool breeze. Autumn is my favourite time of year, so I’ll happily accept an extended one.
I don’t think we quite hit triple digits, but I was outside most of the day and I certainly felt it.
I had it in my head that the October heat wave comes mid month, but I saw a photo dated 10/8/24 of the inflatable pool set up in the backyard of the old house which must have meant upper 80s/low 90s which is far too hot for that town and I remember 90s the first week of October the year before that so now I don’t know what to think
Weather forecast to be just perfect the coming week - highs in the 70s, lows in the 50s. Rain gone.
The latest day on record over 100 for Sacramento is October 10th, with no days over 101 after October 2nd. Looks like this heat wave will end by Thursday though.
90s for October aren’t rare for most of inland California. 100s past the first week are much less common.
I was totally convinced the October wave hit mid-month but clearly I’m just wrong.
That was in Oakland, so debatably coastal. Obviously not rare any more, but sure feels hot there
much needed rain today. talking to the ol’ timers, no one remembers the rivers so low. theres many places you can walk into canada right now and barely wet your ankles.
