How long do fig cuttings take to produce crops of figs?

can often happen the first year, but usually you get full quality and yield year 3-4

last winter i started cuttings of ~25 varieties and i think they all set fruit the first season. they were all in containers.

I started a Chicago hardy I was gifted in January of last year and planted it out in May (I intentionally waited extra long to avoid any possible late frosts since it was newly rooted and it was my first Fig project).

It put on about 4 feet of growth on a central leader and almost as much on the 2 secondary limbs and started setting fruit by September, but wasn’t able to ripen any before frost in mid-october. I expect it will likely be able to set and ripen some this year based on that (assuming it made it through our rough winter) since it has a head start on root growth.

It is somewhat dependent on how much light you give them, and how long your growing season is… if grown from cutting a lot will fruit in the first year, most will fruit by the 2nd year. A few may take until year 3 or so, but that is rare. Often getting the best fruit, and large quantities of it is likely in around year 3. Out of hundreds of trees from cutting, the only ones that have made it past year 3 without fruit are the 3 tissue culture plants I got.

I root indoors in mid December. I’m eating figs 6+ months later. Most all of them I’ve rooted produced figs that year. I’m in Northern California 9-B so it’s hot. The glory of figs.
