How much shade / sun for Ponca blackberry in southern CA?

I’m getting ready to plant my Ponca blackberries from Ison’s in the ground. I’ve been successfully growing blackberry hybrids here for years.

My question is about full sun exposure for Ponca. One spot will receive direct sun 1/3 of daylight hours and the other spot receives full sun 2/3 of daylight hours. The remaining hours are filtered sun at best. Any recommendations?

I would go with full sun unless it gets blazing hot there. If blazing hot some afternoon shade won’t hurt anything. I’m in Deep South Louisiana and our heat and humidity will stop the berries from ripening. We were having a heat wave recently and all my remaining blackberries shat the bed. We finally had a reprieve from the heat and I’m starting to get a handful of berries again.

Well, for better or worse I planted the two Ponca in the sunnier spot and the two Von in the shadier spot.
