How to protect my raspberries?

Hello,
I just recently planted 4 raspberry plants. This morning I found some animal attacked two of the plants down to the ground. Luckily there are a few small shoots coming up so im hopeful they will still survive. Does anyone have recommendations on how to protective the other two raspberry plants from animals?

If the damage occurred between the ground and about a foot up, make hardware cloth sleeves to surround the lower part of the canes.
