How to store bare root strawberry over the winter?

Hi,

Just got a shipment of bare root strawberry mainly for my little grow tent / hydroponics experiment. I still have about half bag of strawberry plant left. Can I store them over the winter and so I can re-plant them in spring? I am in zone 7b. Due to space issue, plant them in ground is not an option for me.

Which one of the following is the best approach?

  1. put them in refrigerator, keep them moist.
  2. plant them in 4 inch containers, keep the soil moist and store them in a no light unheated garage.

Thanks

I would go with option 2, heel them into pots for the winter somewhere cold.
