I’m on the pursuit of a Fondante des Moulins-Lille pear tree. I’m not sure if anyone on here can assist me. It seems that Tierra Madre Farm is no longer selling to the public. I’m remaining hopeful though. Thank you in advance!
If you are willing to graft, the Corvallis NCGR has it listed…maybe you can get a scion.
Thank you so much for your reply. I’ve sent them an email. Their website states that they don’t sell to home gardeners though. But possibly they might be able to tell me someone who would. Thanks again!
I think their scions are free and I’m pretty sure they would provide some to Franke Farm Goats. J. Postman, curator of all things pyrus, said personally to me almost those exact words just a few days ago. Yes, I was there picking pears for the Home Orchard Society’s huge tasting fest, and taking notes for my own scion acquisition…for Seedy’s Scientific Pear Trees and Some Other Stuff. I hope it works…ha ha…just kidding. Send a request…might as well add another one that interests you while you’re at it. If I cut it I’ll add an extra bud.
Edit: Rereading your post, I see you already sent a request…good!
Thank you so much again! Mr. Postman is suppose to contact me. I really am crossing my fingers that he will come through.
BTW, the correct name of this pear is “Fondante de Moulins-Lille” (see Hedrick or any other book on pears). In this name, the partitive article “de” is grammatically correct, not the plural indefinite article “des”.
