Like Szukis and Tranny, there 2 different types of fruits. Some fruits like in the first picture are more roundish and bigger and the second type is more pointy and smaller. Definetely sign of hermaphroditic, female and highly probable male flowers. I am sure this can be used as a pollen source like Szukis and Tranny. Waiting for 1st taste test in a month.

You should taste the fruit now (or at least well before it is ripe). If it is truly PCNA, then it will be non-astringent now.

It is so early now, fruits are still growing. Last year I was able to eat first IZU on September 23. I have 14 ISMAIL fruits in total. I will start tasting on September 1 while the fruit is still green. I want to see its earliness also.

OK, that will work. I’m suggesting that you eat only 1 green, solely for the purpose of testing astringency. A green PCA or PVNA will be astringent. A green PCNA will be non-astringent. So for me, it’s not about “earliness”; it’s about the presence / absence of tannins in the green fruit.

For me earliness is also important. I see a commercial potential in this variety. Imagine having a NA Saijo at the beginning of September, a few weeks earlier than other common varieties. While 99 percent I am sure it is NA, i will 100 percent make sure with the first green fruit that it is NA. Then I will continue testing every 2-3 days to decide optimum harvest date and taste changes. Lets see. I will share more in a month.

@Osi – A question: You’re in Z8 Turkey. I would assume that your persimmons would be more advanced by now. Why do you think the ripening is so late?

A separate observation: As I learned in recent research, the only documented hermaphroditic PCNA Kaki is Taishu. If you have a hermaphroditic PCNA Kaki, it would be an incredible anomaly.

Unlike Western Europe, we had a cooler and more rainy summer this year. It was the opposite last year. I will try the first test in a week. I am just trying to be careful because I have limited number of fruits.

I didn’t realize it but evidently there are D. Kaki varieties in Vietnam, Azerbaijan, Iran, Turkey and even Italy with an oblong shape. People use the term “egg shaped” though I’m not really sure that’s accurate. As far as I can see, these are all PCA.

Google the Italian variety Lampadina, for example.
