Perhaps more of an observation than a question.
I grow about 12 varieties of hardy hybrid plums. This year I’ve seen an almost complete failure to flower. Purple Heart was the only exception with near full bloom and la crescent still had maybe 20% of blooms
All the trees were covered in flower buds, but they were all dead.
The interesting thing is that whatever caused the failure occurred well before any budswelltook place. My strongest suspicion is that they were destroyed in late February or early March when we had some severe and rapid temperature swings…id have to check records but I think it was 50-60 degrees in less than 24hrs. It didn’t get all that cold, but had been unusually warm.
No other stone fruit trees seemed effected, sour cherries, sweet cherries, even my one surviving peach are all blooming nicely…too bad it’s been too cold for any polinators to be active.
Also interesting to note, the few native plums in the area are blooming profusely as well.
