Hybridizing Nanking Cherries

I have a video of my grandson eating nanking cherries here on June fifth. They bloom very early here and usually get frosted

I didn’t posted any updates because the fruit fell off, so I’m going to try again this year, but this year, I’m going to do embryo rescue.

Any updates on your attempts at embryo rescue? Many people have done similar crosses but it requires hundreds if not thousands of crosses to produce seed. You are using prunus so you do have a chance. University of Wisconsin has an interesting stone fruit hybridizing program.

My attempts failed.

This year I pollinated Nanking flowers with Shakar pareh plumcot (tagged with white yarn) and Gardenberry plum, Myro plum x possible Santa Rosa plum as the pollen parent ( tagged with red yarn).
