Weather prediction next two nights means a probable frost. I have several small persimmon grafts that are just budding and some with shuck just opening. I’ll try to cover those. But I have pears with small fruitlets…a couple of trees that have not fruited before (unknown pear, a Le conte, and a Moonglow). If I put a ziplock or something over a few fruits would it save them? I can’t bag all of them but I would like to see what these trees produce.
Temperatures predicted are 37 and 35 but I am typically 3-6 degrees colder at a minimum. Wind is supposed to be 9mph tonight but 3mph tomorrow night with clear skies.

I don’t think that would protect the fruit. If you are 29F at the worst the fruit should be OK.

Okay, thanks. I wondered how low would be okay. Just don’t know how it will skew from the predicted (8 miles south in town).
Your best bet is to run the sprinkler over everything. Bungee cord it to the top of a step ladder and let it run all night till you’re back above freezing. At the temp’s you’re talking, it should do the trick.

Kathy,
In case you have not seen this chart.
https://extension.usu.edu/productionhort/files-ou/CriticalTemperaturesFruitTrees.pdf
People here said their flowers and fruit can tolerate colder temp than the chart says. So this is just a guidelines.
With the preditcted temp you mentioned, I agree with @fruitnut’s statement.

Thanks I had seen that chart but couldn’t remember what temps it was. I was thinking 30 F but looks like it starts at 28 F. Well I didn’t exactly find it under that link (broken) but I did google and find it. Thanks for the reminder!
Sorry, I accidentally deleted the pdf of the link the first time.
Want to make sure I linked it correctly in case others could benefit from it.
