Impressed with my order

I am very impressed with some of the orders I have received this year. Edible Landscaping plants were fully leafed out and looked like they were ready to fruit. The order I received today from Whitman Farms was leafed out and had fruit on the plants. Mulberries, Goumi’s, and Cornelian cherries all with fruit. Way better than the puny Pawpaws that came from the other place in Oregon, or the half dead apple from the place in Maine. How nice to open a box and find it full life!

In my experience, much of Edible Landscaping’s inventory is from tissue culture.

What’s that nice looking pear tree you’ve got there?

Can you tissue culture a pear tree?

Magness pear. It is pretty nice looking.

I got one from them too! Let’s fast forward a few years :pear:

That would be nice!

Congrats, may it bring you and your family joy.

I was also fairly impressed with my order. Only got a few hardy kiwi, but they were lush and healthy looking.

I ordered some Girardi (Gerardi?) mulberry trees from EL this month and they were really impressive — great looking foliage and even covered with developing fruit, right out of the box.

I got a few (potted) Asian pears from them a couple years ago that were also more than a few notches above par. One of them, I think the Shin Li, actually had a developing pear on it. (Before I got around to caging the tree, I was debating over whether to pluck the pear off — a crew of deer settled the question for me by eating the tree down to a stump, but it came back from above the graft and is now finally bigger than when I got it.)

Their bare root trees haven’t really been standouts — neither notably good nor bad — but everything potted that I’ve gotten from them has looked great, and came meticulously packaged.

I also got some potted nigras (fingers crossed) from Whitman Farms this year and was very impressed.

I got one very nice apple and one small one that looks half dead. Neither one has broken but so it’s still a waiting game.
