Is it too early to plant strawberries in raised bed in Z5?

Here in central NY my small raised bed of strawberries had some die-back this year and I need to fill in the blank spots. The instructions say to plant when soil temps are at least 50F.

I have a thermometer a couple of inches into the soil, and during the day the temp is in the low 50s, but it’s probably a little lower at night. My existing strawberries are just breaking dormancy and starting to grow a little, but not much yet.

A few years back I think I might have killed some by planting too soon. Any help is appreciated.

Plant them now. The only danger now for strawberries is possibly getting flowers or immature fruit frozen in frost. The plants themselves are frost hardy and if the plants there are starting to grow you could have planted a week or two ago.

Alan thanks.
