Is over-time Japanese beetle control a myth?

@wardog if you are in a suburban area, there is really nothing you can do. Killing the grubs is the best method, most extensions recommend this, however, if you can’t treat the whole neighborhood (and the adjacent lands), the beetles will just fly in. If you or anyone near you uses the traps, they will bring more beetles to your yard. this was the bane of my existence when i lived in the Midwest and my neighbor put out a trap.
For me, i had a weeping willow tree. The beetles covered it so you couldn’t see any green leaves on it. it was so bad that i had to rip that tree out. once i did, the following years i noticed fewer beetles. So, if you have something that they are really attracted to, you may want to consider removing it from your property.

I have a large area of Lily of tht Valley, about a 10 ft circle. I hung a trap and within minutes hundreds rose up from them. I sprayed the area with insecticide. The next day there where only about 12 beetles in the trap.
