Is there any worthwhile fruit squirrels won't eat?

Or failing that… what are some fruits squirrels don’t seem to like much?

I haven’t found them attacking strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, or raspberries.

That doesn’t mean they won’t eat those. I just haven’t caught them in the act.

Squirrels here eat blueberries. Saw it with my eyes to believe it. Nothing else ripe that early in my yard so it made due, I guess.

I’ve never had the squirrels bother watermelons.

They eat blackberries but not blueberries at my house.

I think depending on the season and availability they will eat almost anything from leaf buds to green fruit to seeds and nuts.

I almost forgot to mention that they don’t even think of eating my crabapples. Don’t know if they despise them or that it is the fear that I would declare war on some bushy tails.

Squirrels here will chew off new caneberry shoots, never mind the fruit.

Around these parts, squirrels eat lead!

I used to have a squirrel-free raspberry patch. Suddenly one year to the next they started decimating it. In time I figured out it was due to all ash trees dying in the area, due to the emerald borer, around 2001-2002. They wee seeding at the same time as the raspberries were fruiting, it must have been a big loss of mast for them.

Oranges/Lemons

They definitely eat oranges. They take mine all the time. They leave real acid citrus like lemons/limes/kumquats.

I think squirrels leave my currents, and gooseberry alone, but birds love them

I even caught them stealing Thai hot peppers. Bet that was a warm winter!

I’ve never seen them eat pears.

They haven’t messed with my paw paws, YET!!!

Interesting. I’ve never lost a lemon or an orange to a squirrel. Lost many oranges to tree rats, however :’(

A neighbor watched a squirrel take all her pears when we lived in Oshkosh, WI. They haven’t bothered mine much. They do eat an occasional one only. (So far.)

On the contrary I have had squirrels completely hollow out a watermelon ( ground squirrels specifically). I’ve had to construct cages that completely encase each individual watermelon.

I have observed squirrels consuming oranges as their primarily liquid source – however they won’t decimate an entire tree.
