A lot of my plums have wrinkled tops (where the stem attaches). The wrinkly section still tastes ok, for the most part, although it tends to deteriorate pretty fast. Both of my Italian plums have this problem this year. Does anyone know what caused this?
I think you waited a bit too long to pick them.
I don’t think the problem is that they’re over ripe.
In previous years, I have left plums on the tree until the whole plum was uniformly soft and then they get very sweet. These problem plums are still pretty firm on the bottom and not all that sweet. They don’t taste ripe yet.
Maybe the problem is uneven ripening. Is that possible?
