Nice looking apple … but you will only get rich if you have millions of dollars to market it! :grinning:

IMO there is no market niche in apples that isnt already filled. With hundreds of apple varieties in existence if as a consumer you havent found the “right one” you havent been looking hard enough.

Great looking apple! Takes a lot of work to market new apple varities. I give mine away http://www.growingfruit.org/t/new-apple-seedling-varieties/2076 in hopes they make the world a little better place. Stay dedicated to your dream because whatever you believe you can achieve if you want it bad enough!

A good balanced tart sweet apple year round would be nice at the Supermarkets. I can’t think of one. I was looking at my Granny Smith tree thinking if left to ripen on the tree I would fit the bill. Sell it as Granny’s Sweet Smith! I’m a marketing guru!

Yup, I give all my veggies away. Funny to see strangers I’ve never seen stop to get stuff. The neighborhood Kidd’s love my apple cider.

People fall in love with a really good apple so marketing the fruit might be even better as a JohntheCook apple no one else has. Club apples do it all the time. I bet you are well liked in your area! The world is better because people like you put veggies out there and all those kids think hmmm we could grow our own. Long after your not around there will be stories of your apple cider!

Hey if they can sell an Apple called Crunch A Bunch, Johns Whopper is marketing money maker!

John,
Market it to the Cape Cod vacationers. Call it Sweet Cape Coder or something like that. People like to buy things from their vacation destinations. They could rave about your apple variety and spread the words far and wide. You will have a niche market right there.

Now that I know where you live, I will be in line for free veggies :):joy:

Been a good cucumber, squash, bean year. Tomatoes kicking in. Peppers not so much yet…

I would never discourage anyone from following a dream. Go for it because you might be the one that can turn Johns Whopper into a profitable apple. My current plans with seedlings is to grow one good enough that I can attach my grands name to it and freely offer it to other Growing Fruit members.

Hmmmm your nicer than me! I’ve got a good story like a lot of these chance seedlings. The parent tree is growing on a hillside right on the ocean. It takes a beating and survives tough storms, wind, blizzards, and is still alive. It is shaped like a lot of things growing by the ocean low to the ground wind blown to hug the hill.

The guy who found/grew the Franklin Cider apple sold the rights to Stark Bros (no idea what he got). There is a chance for “fame and riches”

Crunch-A-Bunch…….saw a tree for sale at Lowe’s yesterday. About a $12 tree grafted on about 5 branch tips with “Crunch-A-bunch” apparently.

Droopy weeping tree priced at $39.95

And if you pruned it any, you’d lose all the “crunch-a-bunch” and have whatever the original tree was…
probably red delicious or something!

Home a Depot had a bunch of multi grafted trees. They all pretty much looked bad. They did have some other interesting Apple trees this year.

Thankyou! I already told my wife to quit medicine and start looking for second homes in the Caribbean!

It’s definitely an early apple. Not crunchy, but pretty good texture. Tart, sweet, which I like. Has maybe watercore problem. I think browns fast which I think a lot of summer apples do. Worth growing more of just for it being wild.
