My name is Pavel and I grow persimmon, pawpaw and jujube in Southern Moravia, Czech Republic. Jujube crops heavily every year. Here are some pics of my own selection which I call “Halina”. It is actually the best fresh eating variety.

You finally found Us. I like your persimmons threads in the old Gardenweb. Very nice jujube, how does it tastes?. Do you dry them? Btw, how are the persimmons? Have you try out the new persimmon Hybrids like Jt-02, and Kasandra?

Tony, it is crunchy and sweet when fresh. Juiciness varies from year to year. When I compare it with Sugar Cane it is very similar in taste slightly larger and soft skinned. Yes I dry them, they fit nicely in my Ezidry dehydrator. When dry I vaccuum them they last very long. What I like on jujubes is that they are never affected by spring frosts.
Persimmons here are prone to damage by spring frosts but I always get some fruit. I don’t grow Jt-02 and Kasandra but have some new ukrainian hybrids - hopefully see some fruit next year.

I really like Li and Honey Jar. HJ is a favorite with my family. It is very crunchy, sweet, thin skin, more juice than any jujube varieties, its still tastes good while in green stage, earliest ripening in cold region, and very productive in full sun for my Z5. I will crank up the volume of 10 HJs next Spring.

Iam also trying to grow the Sugar Cane that i got from you.
For now it has been in a pot and will be planted next spring. (Along with Superrosseyanka Persimmon and many others)

Thank you all for a positive response. Cliff, I am going to contact you very soon. Right now I am quite busy processing this bountiful crop. I was hoping that some of the european members will join in and show us what jujubes they grow. It is quite popular in Croatia, Slovenia and other countries. Incidentally, I have heard some anecdotal saying in Marseille, Southern France that when you grow a jujube it will bring you a “bad luck”. In Italy, though, it is believed that planting jujube brings you a “good fortune”. In any case do grow jujube it is very rewarding and never disappointing.

After years of trying we finally Have Halina grafted I found it very hard to graft and was fickle about taking
This year We received some really good scion wood thanks to Friends
Its growing well but it will be several years before it is available
