Some of my plums have this. Is it just a little surface damage keeping the fruit edible or should I be picking the damaged fruit off? I did some research online and couldn’t quite find the answer. Thanks.
I have eaten many plums like this and they were ok inside. If my trees were overloaded with fruit I would thin these.
Not a big deal to me but I’m sure these could not be marketed. Bill
Awesome! Thanks Bill, just the answer I was hoping for. These will definitely be for home consumption so my family definitely won’t care about a little blemish on the surface. If there were to be a worm of some kind inside, that might be a little traumatic for them.
I have no idea what caused the damage but it looks just like the ones I’ve eaten that only had surface damage. Bill
I happened to stumble across a website that had pictures very similar to the damaged fruit I had. It appears to be a leafroller caterpillar that nibbles mainly on the leaves and then a little on the fruit, leaving a little scarring when the fruit gets larger. You guys were right, completely cosmetic.
