Kaki - how much growth before I can tell if its a fruit bud?

Last year I was sure, at about this stage of growth, that I had flower buds forming and I’d get my first fruits on this 4 year or so old Izu.

What do you guys think? Could this just be more vegetative buds, or are a couple of those going to flower? Too early to tell?

Flower buds will show very early and be noticeably larger. Here are some on grafts I did last year. They are too young to fruit but I give them credit for trying.

Thanks for the pictures. I can see my chocolate has flowers, probably male, with shorter growth:

It seems odd that your Izu isn’t flowering after 4 years. Maybe give it more phosphorous?

Looks like flower buds to me.

These are pics of my Kassandra on its third leaf last year May 16th. The idea of having fruit for the first time was unreal. I expected fruit drop but not all of them, maybe one will hold on this year!

I hope these pictures help.

I’ve got a good feeling about some of these Izu. I think it may form the flower buds later than others. The Chocolate are visible almost immediately, especially the male flower sin their groups of 3.

This is from today on the Izu. It should be obvious by Friday one way or another.

There will be at least one flower.

Hope you get to taste this variety this year. I had one from a mall in Tokyo that was better than most commercially available nonastrigents in the States. Very nice texture
