That can be a big if sometimes. I’m usually after something with less body that’s not so heavy hitting, and to be honest these days I usually prefer a white or orange if I’m having wine. …but sometimes it’s just the right thing. When I do homemade pizza it’s often what I end up wanting.
I’m not sure it even exists, but most of the time I think my ideal wine would be a light, slightly dry borderline off-dry, effervescent young wine sort of like a vinho verde but orange and made with hybrid grapes that have a bit of that American grape foxy flavor cropped at relatively high yield to get the concentration a bit lower that’s pretty ripe but still has some freshness. Not sophisticated I’ll admit, and pretty much the literal opposite of a big California zinfandel. But it just sounds nice. That might also just be the fact that I was outside a lot today and it was kinda hot and a rich red just isn’t appealing right now… Still, I think that’s roughly what my comfort zone actually is even if I enjoy swimming out to deep waters sometimes with the wild or intense stuff. Don’t really know for sure though because I’ve never had a wine like that.
