Do any of you know anything about the pear known as Florida 58-45? It’s also known as Killer Pear. Here’s a photo.
Yes i do https://npgsweb.ars-grin.gov/gringlobal/accessiondetail.aspx?id=1574242. Its an Ethan Natelson donation " Florida 58-25’ came from the breeding program of Wayne Sherman, in Gainesville, Florida. He never released it. It is a large pear of very good quality. Almost totally russeted, like Bosc and pyriform. Seems fairly blight-resistant here (Houston, TX). Ethan Natelson, March 14, 1999." Since scion is available you should be able to graft it next year.
Hope it’s a good one. A friend dropped by the house and left me some sion wood. Grafting the 4 sticks this morning. Happy to hear its a Florida pear to, should be fine in our humid hot environment.
Here also left me a stick of southern king and 4 sticks of tennosui
Mine is growing so far.

I only know it got some good reviews at some pear tastings in Houston. Grafted a couple trees two years ago, no fruit yet.
My grafts are budding now
Mine have taken off like rockets since my last post. Hopefully will fruit next year.
Any update or additional input on the flavor profile?
Not yet, there is some fruit for the first time but not many.
