Knock on wood we have fruit!

Well it looks like the cold nights we got a few weeks ago had zero impact on fruit production here in GA. My apricot, plums, pluots, nectaplum, peaches and blueberries are COVERED with fruitlets. The 10-day forecast looks most excellent so unless we get a super late freeze this should be a good year for fruit! Super curious to see how my pluots and apricots do. Everyone I’ve talked to said you can’t grow them here. Hope they are wrong.

Certainly good news Mick.

The cold March really helped supress bloom here. Dapple Dandy is toast here but so far thats the only obvious bloom kill. Many other plums and pluots have swollen buds that still apear viable. Apples and pears should be fine. The long term forecast shows warmer weather for the next few weeks. Only one day below freezing. We are certainly not out of the woods. Not by a longshot.

My pears, plums, huckleberries and blueberries in Statesboro Georgia all look great so far. The photo below is of my Mariana plum which is usually not very productive, but has a good crop this year it appears.

Make sure to wait five years before celebrating. I broke out the champagne after the first year I got peaches … but then the curculio and fruit moth showed up after that and wiped me out for a few years.

Definitely not celebrating. Praying for the best.
