Late NH blueberry - Last Call?

Still looking for a tasty late northern highbush blueberry for fresh eating. I’ve tried aurora and chandler. But I’m looking for something that will hang a while to sweeten up. And something with a shorter ripening period than chandler. Something later than my bluecrop.

Any thoughts on “last call”? Does anyone know where I can buy it?

Better suggestions?

Thanks.

Ever try Legacy. It is referred to as mid-late I think. The flavor is very good.I could probably send a couple of small plants,if wanted. Brady

Elliot is my late here, and the only one significantly later than the likes of Berkley and Bluecrop that I grow. How good it is depends on the season but it bears large berries capable of good sweetness if left on the plant long enough. I don’t really differentiate that much between the varieties as far as taste as most get frozen and thrown together in bags to be eaten on waffles and in oatmeal all fall and winter.

My favorite during foraging season are always two I have with the very biggest fruit, one of them is Bonus but I’ve lost track of the other. Just mentioning this, neither is late enough for you or even adequately productive for me. Probably that’s why the fruit’s so good.

Legacy is a northern-southern hybrid. Might not make it in chilly NH. Mine in Md has been slow to acclimate here.

Consider:

“Elizabeth” from Fedco Trees or Gurney’s. Wild highbush selected out of New Jersey. Reports say it has superior flavor. Cold hardy to z6, possibly lower. 6 feet tall at maturity w/ strong spreading branches. Ripens mid-late season after Bluecrop.

“Jersey” from Stark Bros. 7-ft tall erect at maturity. Ripens late. Cross-pollinates w/ Bluecrop.

I also use Elliott as my late and as Alan said…flavor is dependent on how long you let them ripen on the plant. They are very large and tasty…probably my second favorite after Bluecrop. Here in Zone 5B Maine…they ripen from about the last week in August through first frost. I grow 5 varieties that have worked very well for me:

Northland
Patriot
Bluecrop
Jersey
Elliott

They all have very distinct tastes and characteristics…and I get fresh berries from mid-July through mid-September.

I think lsoh is in zone 5 Ohio, which may be okay for Legacy.Elizabeth is very good too,I forgot about that one,but is not a real late variety, ripening sometime in July/August.I also had a couple Jersey and they produced a lot of canes, but the flavor was okay, not great,so I gave them away.
I looked up Last Call and the plant may have been developed by Fall Creek Nursery in Oregon,at least that’s what it sounded like on their web page. From the presentation,it seems that variety, for now anyway,is for commercial use.Looks like a good producer though. Brady

Thanks all, for your ideas. I did some follow up homework, and I’ve decided on Legacy.

Bradybb, Thanks for your generous offer to send a couple of plants. I’d prefer not to impose on you. I’m placing an order for some other plants so I’ll just add on a Legacy. But really, thanks for the offer.

Legacy here in NYC, fine for last 4 years or so, heavy bearer, good to above avg flavor and firmness.
