How are the mangoes? I’m thinking curried mango fish over rice. We senior citizens tend to relate all recreation with eating, but the adventure instinct isn’t quite dead yet. I wiki’ed the location and fantasized about the adventure of going there… and eating curied mango fish over rice.

Hahahahaha I love it Alan. On my recipe list now. The mangoes vary to be honest but generally very sweet. There are more and more varieties now readily available. Am sure you still have it in you, worth a visit. Lake Malawi as one of the most Bio diverse lakes in the world is a beauty. Also known as the lake of stars. It certainly has a rich and poor interesting Sunday.

Interesting History

It is crazy gorgeous, can you tell us about the rock sculpture?

In the days when I had a few fish tanks in the house I remember the interesting unique chichlid fish from Lake Malawi.

I have a tank of Mbuna, which are Malawi cichlids that like to live among the rocky shores (their water changes fertilize my trees). They’re beautiful and have a great variety of colors, and that’s just a subset of the cichlids that come from there. It must be a remarkable place.

Am no geologist guys but the rocks you see in the picture contain a shiny element called mica. With strong window erosion, it can create beaches like the place I used to work at - www.nkwichi.com or another place I used to also run - makuzi beach.
Depending on direction the beach or rock formation is facing, you either get fine or coarse sand. Our strongest winds are called Mwera (Southern) and these are prevalent between May to early August. The formations vary depending where you are. It is pretty sweet lake to live next to. The local tribe here have so great. They struggle to adopt anywhere else because they have it easy here.

Solid business that. A couple of tanks and you can sell on for 12 dollars. Diving is offered at many spots on the lake but I ve found the clarity of the water, you can just as well snorkel and it s just madness in their , the amount of colours around you are indescribable. If you can a chance try to watch a BBC documentary on lake Malawi by David Dimbleby. Worth a watch

Went to an area last Friday in Northern Mozambique which shares part of the lake and it is called Mbuna Bay. I am going a stab in the dark and say there were plenty Mbuna there ?
