my lodi apple was full of fruit this spring but because i couldn’t spray due to the wet spring its full of blight. no tips dead but leaves are infected and i have splitting bark from the ground up. i tried the copper and 50/50 white vinegar. any other ideas? do i chop her so i don’t infect my other trees and plants? don think it will make a difference as my property is surrounded with mountain ash that always has blight in them. big trees that can’t be sprayed. what else can i do to treat my tree?
I assume you mean fireblight… If its on the trunk that you don’t want to cut out you can paint with copper and then when that is dry put some tree kote (tar) on it.
yes . fire blight. copper you mean like bonide copper? full strength? i have a 4in. a crack about 4in. from the bottom i coated with pure neem and melted soy wax and covered liberally. will that help? 1st. time dealing with this. thanks for the tips. its such a nice tree. i don’t want to lose it!
The neem won’t help, it has no action against fireblight. If the wax completely covers the injury that is the most important thing. As long as the wax is not easily melting it is doing a similar thing as tar. I don’t know if you want to take it all off and start over, but having some copper underneath it all will give some added protection. I use copper at much stronger than the spray concentration, but no need to go to full strength - somewhere in between.
will do. thanks!
