Luther Burbank Home & Gardens Visit

My family just returned from our Spring Break roadtrip – Portland to SoCal via the Oregon Coast and the Northern California Redwoods. We flew the first leg to Portland, but as expected, it was still an awful lot of driving. Incredibly beautiful country though. Berry’s are amazing in Oregon – they are everywhere and in one spot had basically taken over an old abandoned two story barn. Glad I moved my berries to a raised bed this year to help keep them under control.

One unexpected stop was Santa Rosa, which turned out to be one of the highlights of the trip for me. Perfectly manicured wine grapes starting to go green everywhere. We were also able to stop at the Luther Burbank Home & Gardens, something I would have never thought to do several years ago (pre-fruit tree addiction). It’s a great stop and well worth it for anyone who spends time on this forum. The wife and kids enjoyed it too.

Here’s a few pics from the visit.

Entry…

Dedication…

Memorial Garden from the street entry…

We were mostly there before they opened. The gardens open early and even on days when the small museum portion is closed. But they have a very well done cell phone audio tour…

Life story and awards…

Pano…

Plums…

And the rest…

Bob, thanks for the pictures. I haven’t been there in probably 45 years, good to see it is still lovingly maintained.

Did you make it to Burbank’s old farm in Sebastopol just outside of Santa Rosa?

Unfortunately no. My oldest is a huge fan of the Jelly Belly Factory in Fairfield, so it was a really busy day fitting it all in.

LOL. I understand.
