Mariposa vs. Satsuma

So I found out that Mariposa is an Improved Satsuma, which differs from Satsuma as well as Satsuma Improved. I have only been able to find one reference on this site as well as looking around briefly on the Internet as to the difference between Satsuma Improved and the others, and that is that the former ripens later. Does anyone know anything else, specifically on how how Improved Satsuma is an improvement over regular Satsuma?

What sources assert that ‘Mariposa’ is different from “Satsuma Improved?”

For me it was similar in taste to Satsuma, maybe not quite as good, but it did not set very well so I took it out. It will probably set better for you. The fruit were a bit larger. If it set well I would have kept it as the lateness was a nice extension to the Satsuma harvest.

Its interesting that there are many varieties with “Improved” in the name but very few of them ever beat out the original. Usually they are improved in one way, but worse in three others
