Ever put off grafting something? Ever put it off this long? 3 years ago I put in a row of seedling plums I’ve been planning to graft over to Japanese plums.
Awesome! Do you sell your fruit at market? If so thise folks are lucky!!!
Mickster,
I’m more of a professional amateur. Not good enough to do it for a living but not really a home grower either. I’m still figuring some things out. I’m expecting to be able to make a good business out of it by the time I retire. For now I’m just having fun with growing fruit and occasionally sell some produce to a grocery store. I’m researching fruit varieties heavily because in Kansas very little fruit is grown. Out of the 100’s of fruits I’ve grown very few can do well here. The plum trees your looking at are amateur mistakes and though p. Americana looks good that’s not it’s intended purpose. One of those days I spent in the lawn chair sipping sun tea or lemonade I should have grafted those over.
Love that, a professional amateur, one step up from an amateur amateur.
I’m still grafting with fruit on,but not that far along. Brady
Your environment should be similar to mine. What fruits have you found to be successful in your area? Here, the only things more or less dependable seem to be pears , primocane raspberries,.
hardy grapes and .sour cherries.
