Pretty sure, here is what a female mulberry flower/fruit set looks like
Checked my attempt to root Clarks Mulberry from dormant scion.. again today.
This is the end of week 3.
Keeping them in the dark has minimized top growth pretty well. Hope there are some roots developing below.
After next Friday (end of week 4) I will start letting them have sunshine.

Trev, I’ve had good success rooting plants on the north end of my house where direct sun never hits the plants. This prevents stress and permits slow growth of roots and leaves.
@Fusion_power… that is exactly where these are.. North side.
The north side of my home gets just a bit of early morning and late evening sun… but is shaded the rest of the day.
Next Friday I will move them to my back porch which faces due east… excellent morning sun.
If they make it there for 4 weeks will move them to the south side for all day sun.

I’m new to mulberries, but I have three dwarfs. Why would you graft a regular size cultivar onto the dwarf? Does it stay a dwarf?
Usually mulberries are only dwarfed because of tight bud spacing, and unfortunately dwarf rootstock wont dwarf anything you graft to it. Lots of pruning would be your best option for keeping a non dwarf small/managable.
Noticed the ancient hybrid in my neighborhood is starting to drop fruit. I’ve posted about this tree before, and its absolutely huge. Fruit is good too.
I finally took the time to graft it at home this spring and so far its growing like crazy. About two feet of new growth through a single bud.
@treefrogtim— that is a nice fruit load. good sized berries too.
On that graft growth…awesome… but I would put a 6-8 ft stake in and secure all that growth.
One good thunderstorm can sure wreck that.

Feral mulberry (in Newport Ky) with the sweetest mulberries I’ve had. The fruit production is 7/10 and not much flavor. I’ll definitely take cuttings later.
The tree is on the side of the road under a black locust tree.
This tree has more mulberries than leaves!
Unfortunately the fruit doesn’t taste good nor is it sweet. But is a 10/10 for fruit production.
one tree is loaded with flower the other with the smaller fruit. the third tree looks to have both on different branches.i grabbed a branch or two to get a photo
this tree had berries last year, might just pollinate this year but i have enough either way
.
Can anyone confirm this is mulberry? It came up from forgotten rootstock I thought was dead.
Thanks!
Sure looks like a Morus alba to me ![]()
This is a pic of a mulberry that I grafted over a few years back.. it was a white mulberry sweet only.. I did not care for.. and now it is my Gerardi.
That is what the white mulberry buds looked like when I grafted.

i grafted i.e to my russian mulberry 2 days ago. 4th. attempt. 1st time with i.e and 1st time fully dormant. i also stuck 6 i.e cuttings in ground around the tree to see if any root. my i.e from barkslip is about 5ft. now. hopefully i get to taste the berries for the 1st time. my Riverview is on 5th leaf and nary a berry despite it growing very vigorously to 12ft. i tried cutting it down to its 3 biggest branches last spring trying to force it to fruit. nope. anything else i could try with this tree to get it to fruit? its 3in.on the stump and very healthy. i only fertilized it a few times when it was young. i dont even need to mulch it anymore. i know its not bogus as ive seen Riverview mentioned on other mulberry sites. it came from Rolling River Nursery before they sold out. it gets full sun until 230pm then dappled shade from my spruces. you guys are killin’ me with mulberry pics!
Fruits from the tree I dubed “Ethan’s mulberry” .
Fruits aren’t as large as last year due to it being shaded out and being pushed over.
The flavor and size isn’t as good either but still pretty good.
I walked 1.5 both ways tonight for some fruit because I’ll be gone for 11 days starting Thursday.
Today is the end of week 4.. of my attempt to root dormant scion of Clarks mulberry.
I have had them in the dark for the first 4 weeks to minimize top growth and hopefully give roots time to get started.
That worked well.. just a bit of top growth here at 4 weeks in.
They are on my back porch now which gets morning sun only. Expect the top growth to crank up now… Hope there are roots below developing to support the top growth.
Will find out in a few more weeks.
