I’m pruning this muscadine on the property I just bought and I noticed it growing into the barbed wire, will this Vine eventually die or will it just grow around the wire?
Since it’s not going all the way around circling the vine, probably won’t kill it.
Might or might not be a problem at some point.
BlueBerry is probably correct. At a nature preserve near me there is a mature tree that grew next to an old barbed wire fence and the wire runs right through the tree. From what I recall, the tree appeared unharmed by it. I’ll take a picture the next time I’m there and post it here.
I’m still cutting away I noticed at the end of the vine is alive but a lot of the side branches are dead not a lot of new growth in other words, I might run a new cane alongside of it and see how they do come spring. They haven’t been pruned back for several years on what I know
I guess I took a couple of pictures of that tree last year and there are several wires running through it!
Most all of the side branches are dead for about 6 ft then I’ve got a couple side branches after that, is this worth saving, will buds come out of those dead shoots?
Blueberry is correct. As long as it is not circling. I have repaired broke limbs with screws and have a lot of wire looking like your pics. Not a problem. Plants are pretty tough. I even have a few circling and it was just engulfed in the plant with no damage.
